Sven-Göran Erikssons 35-year manager career took him around the world.
Sven-Göran ”Svennis” Eriksson, was a Swedish football manager from Torsby. Sven’s career started in Degerfors IF, took off with him leading IFK Göteborg in the early 1980’s to winning Allsvenskan, Uefa Europa League and the Swedish cup. Sven-Göran has managed a number of European clubs as SL Benfica, AS Roma och SS Lazio. He has also been the national team captain for England, Mexico, The Ivory Coast and The Philippines. During his career Sven won the league in Sweden, Portugal and Italy. He has also won a number of cups, like UEFA-cup and the UEFA-Cup winner’s cup. He has been the national team captain during three World cups – for England 2002 and 2006, and for The Ivory Coast 2010. Sven managed teams in 10 countries: Sweden, Portugal, Italy, England, Mexico, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, The Ivory Coast, China and the Philippines.
Makes debut as head coach when he succeeds Tord Grip.
His first coaching assignment was as assistant coach to Tord Grip, whom he came into contact with in Karlskoga, in Degerfors IF. When Grip became an assistant coach in Sweden’s national team in 1977, Eriksson took over the main responsibility. He was noticed by IFK Göteborg’s management, who engaged him as a coach, together with Bo Johansson as an assistant coach.
After a tough start in which Sven had difficulty getting results, things let up and Sven was able to lead IFK Göteborg to the club’s greatest success of all time: the final victory in the Uefa Cup in 1981/1982. In the same year, they also won the Allsvenskan and the Swedish Cup.
In 1982, Eriksson was also awarded Tidningarnas Telegrambyrå’s sports leader award (TT’s sports leader award).
A cup title in 1986 becomes Svens only one with the club.

Moves to Portugal and wins 2 league titles.
Wins the Italian cup 1994.
Wins the Cup Winners' Cup, Italian Cup and the Italian league.
Despite being constantly questioned, Svennis is one of the most successful captains in English national football of all time.
Despite two derby victories against United and the best placement for City in many years, Sven-Göran Eriksson is fired after one season.
In the summer of 2008, Eriksson took over as Mexico's national team captain, succeeding Jesús Ramirez. Mexico played eleven qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup with Eriksson at the helm. These resulted in six wins, one draw and four losses.
Sven-Göran jumped at the chance to become a sporting director to take the League 2 club to the Premier League. It all ended in chaos with shady owners, broken promises and a Sol Campell who left after one game.
Sven left the job after just over six months.
Sven-Göran Eriksson led Ivory Coast during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. This was announced at the end of March 2010. After the World Cup, he retired from the national team.
On 3 October, Eriksson was announced as Leicester City's new manager. Eriksson spent a lot of money during his time as Leicester manager. Among the players he bought for the team were Lee Peltier, Kasper Schmeichel, Sean St Ledger, David Nugent, Paul Konchesky, John Paintsil, Michael Ball, Jermaine Beckford, Michael Johnson and Gelson Fernandes.
Since January 2013, Eriksson has been working as a technical advisor for Al Nasr in the United Arab Emirates. However, on 4 June 2013, Guangzhou R&F, a club playing in the Chinese Super League, announced that Eriksson would be their new head coach on a 19-month contract, running until the end of December 2014.
Between October 2018 and January 2019, Eriksson coached the men's national team in the Philippines. The team participated in the Asian Championships, among other things, but failed to advance from their qualifying group.
